Something that really characterises
Havana is its animated cultural life. Cuban artistic tradition
has been outstanding. Arts in the island have developed and
flourished thanks to excellent creators in all manifestations
of arts. The most demanding and refined tastes are satisfied
at Havanas big theatres. The Teatro Nacional de Cuba
(Paseo and 39 St, Vedado has two magnificent halls: the
Sala Covarrubias for dance and theatre shows and the Sala Avellaneda
used for concerts by the National Symphonic Orchestra and for
Ballet. This spot is preferred by foreign companies which come
to the island propitiating cultural exchange. The Teatro
García Lorca is the seat of the Alicia Alonso National
Ballet Company, it is the luxurious house of the international
ballet festivals which are celebrated in Havana with great success.
The Teatro Karl Marx (1st Avenue, Miramar) has a splendid
concert hall; opening and closing ceremonies of the Latin-American
Film Festival and other international celebratiions are usually
held here. The Teatro Amadeo Roldan (512 Calzada, Vedado),
recently reopened, will be permanent seat for the National Symphonic
Orchestra, giving concerts here every weekend. Other cultural
facilities, where you can enjoy theatre plays are: Teatro
Hubert de Blanck (Calzada #654, Vedado.), Teatro Mella
(Línea #657, Vedado.), Cine-Teatro Trianón (Línea #706,
Vedado), Teatro Buendía (Loma and 39, Nuevo Vedado. )
and the Teatro Fausto (Paseo del Prado and Colón), among
others. There is a varied cultural movement in the islands
capital every weekend, offering visitors the possibility of
encountering the more genuine and important manifestations of
arts in the biggest of the Antilles.
