An ample culture and energetic history are characteristics of the Cuban people. In the capital of the island important museums are always open to fulfil the eager of knowledge of intellectuals and tourists interested in Cuban history.

The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (National Museum of Fine Arts) hosts the biggest collection of Cuban fine arts. There is a hall of Cuban paintings and engravings from the 16th to the 20th Century. European Arts hall with originals by Rubens, Murillo, Goya and more, as well as art collections from the ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman civilisations, considered the most important in Latin America. The Museo Napoleónico (dedicated to Napoleon) is of the most important of its kind in the world. It is a Florentine style palace which treasures objects that belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte like the pistols he used during the Borodino Battle and the spyglass and two-cornered hat he wore at Santa Elena. There are different items from the ends of the first Empire and Napoleon’s personal belongings.

The Museo de las Ciencias "Carlos J. Finlay" (Museum of Sciences), only of its kind in Latin America reveals the antecedents of Sciences in Cuba, the history of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Havana and the participation of medical doctors in the wars for independence.

The Parque Histórico Militar Morro-Cabaña made up by the Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro (National Monument) and the San Carlos de la Cabaña fortress. It holds a museum with the country’s most important collection of old weapons. Every night at nine o’clock sharp a cannon shot is made from here, in a ceremony that preserves the tradition of the report that was shot to announce the hour when the city’s doors were closed (La Cabana Highway, Habana del Este).

The Museo de la Ciudad (City Museum) is located at the former headquarters of the General Captains of the Island. It owns collections that conform the historic panorama of the city since its foundation to the present times. The more important halls show the Cuban wars for national independence.
